AfyAfrika is a women-led, youth-serving community-based organization aimed at providing a local platform for catalyzing and amplifying the social movement to end Female Genital Mutilation, Child Marriage, and Gender-Based Violence. We support local grassroots organizations and communities to strengthen their social change communications and develop locally-owned strategies, informed by national priorities, to address local contexts and needs.
Our definition of success is not just about achieving goals but continuously setting and pursuing higher, more difficult goals. We believe success lies in growing and learning while helping others reach their full potential.
Discover the inspiring history of Afyafrika and how we have been working to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), child marriage, and gender-based violence in communities.
Afyafrika was founded with the mission of ending harmful cultural practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and child marriage in Kenya. Our journey began with a small group of passionate advocates committed to making a change in the lives of girls and women.
We launched our first community-based program to educate local populations about the dangers of FGM and the importance of girls' education. This initiative paved the way for many more impactful projects in the coming years.
In 2015, Afyafrika collaborated with international organizations and donors to expand its outreach and implement more large-scale programs to combat FGM and child marriage across Kenya. This partnership strengthened our impact.
We successfully led a national campaign against FGM, which garnered significant attention and support from local governments, the media, and other NGOs. The campaign led to policy changes that positively impacted the lives of thousands of girls.
Afyafrika expanded its efforts to new regions in Kenya, reaching more marginalized communities and continuing to provide education, resources, and support for the prevention of FGM and gender-based violence.
We celebrated a major milestone—over 10,000 girls were reached through our programs, and the incidence of FGM in targeted communities has decreased significantly. Our work continues to have a profound impact on the lives of women and girls in Kenya.
We invite you to be part of our ongoing journey. Together, we can build a future where every girl and woman has the opportunity to live free from violence.
